Microlite Introduces BackupEDGE Release 02.00.03 with Java and Web Services Interfaces
ALIQUIPPA, PA -- June 15, 2004 -- Microlite Corporation is pleased to announce the availability of the latest release of its award winning BackupEDGE
backup and disaster recovery software, featuring…
- A new Multi-Mode Graphical / Character User Interface
- Support for SCO® UnixWare® 7.1.4.
User Interface BackupEDGE has a state-of-the-art user interface that can be rendered three different ways...
- in graphical mode as a Web Service from any client system supporting Java†, such as a Windows® equipped PC.
- in graphical mode on X11 consoles or clients equipped with Java†.
- in character mode on system consoles, dumb terminals or xterm clients.
The user interface operates identically in all three modes (it is in fact a single compiled binary). No operator re-training is required. It features pull-down menus, one-key, on-line context sensitive
help, and fast "key jump" access to most features. The server being administered doesn't even need graphics capabilities. Any system having a Java-equipped web browser can now authenticate into and graphically manage
a BackupEDGE installation over a secure, encrypted network link. If the server does have Java, then the Java interface can also be run under X11. The Java and Web Services modes are theme-based. Users /
VARs / OEMs may adjust color and graphics for a customized look and feel. † Requires Sun® Java 1.4.2 or later. UnixWare 7.1.4 SupportBackupEDGE and its companion RecoverEDGE
disaster recovery component have been tested and modified to support the newest version of UnixWare beginning with this release. As Java 1.4.2 is a part of this UnixWare release, the BackupEDGE
X11 Java interface is automatically enabled upon installation. "Flexibility is a cornerstone of our products," said Frank Liberato, Vice President of Engineering at Microlite. "By leveraging the
existing infrastructure of the Internet, our users can see an immediate benefit in ease of administration simply by enabling the Web Services interface." About BackupEDGEMicrolite BackupEDGE provides backup and disaster
recovery capabilities across a wide variety of UNIX and Linux systems. It has many "best-in-class" features and benefits, including storage format, integrity checking, compression, device support, scheduling, disaster
recovery and strong data encryption. It has support for more storage device types than any other product, including CD-R/RW, all DVD formats, and Iomega®
REV drives, in addition to traditional tape drives, autoloaders, changers and libraries. More details about BackupEDGE and an on-line Web Services
demo are available from the Microlite Corporation web site.
